I’ve decided to bestow some of the plants from our summer trials with a few rather ‘alternative’ awards!
Most Trippy-Out Appearance!
It’s got to be Hydrangea ‘Glam Rock’, with it’s super psychedelic flowers that change by the day, if not the hour.
Strongest Contender for Perennial of the Year
Show-stopping ‘New Zealand Hybrids’ Delphiniums, from the super fussy breeding of Mr Terry Dowdeswell!
Heaviest Population of Drunken Butterflies
These were constantly swarming our dwarf Buddleja ‘Buzz’, but pity most were camera-shy…!
Unsung Hero of the Trial
This gorgeous little Pelargonium was overlooked by many, but it said neatly in a corner, with it’s luminous faux blue florets, in a non-stop procession.
Most Plastic Plant
Shrugging off EVERY type of weather, Geranium ‘Balcon’ plants are so tough you could sit on them and they wouldn’t notice!
Best Display of Accidental Beauty
Our gorgeous red-flowered Carrot ‘Dara’ was planted too near the Ageratum, but it turned out to be a perfect date!
Plant Most Likely to Make you Scream ‘WTF?’
Yes, it’s a bedding begonia with a difference, and it’s hardy too! Looks fab against it’s (slightly dated) rival, the humble Marigold.
Worst Weather Resistance
Step forward ‘Dusty Sun’, a new Petunia we will NOT be listing next year..!
Special Triffid Award Goes to…
The Peruvian Tree Lilies, some new Alstromeria for patio obelisks, or the very back of borders…!

All well deserved Awards, and I would like to nominate the fab Delft blue delphinium for ‘The Best shade of Blue’ Award …
Sarah Shoesmith
Excellent awards! I am particularly impressed by the sitting on geraniums trial…. would it be terribly wrong to ask for photographic evidence?
